4-Wheeled Vehicles

Damage to Peace Valley Snow Rider's Trails

Jan 1, 2025, For the second time this month, the north end of the Peace Valley Snow Riders Osmond/Getaway Cabins Leddy Lake Trail has been damaged by wheeled vehicles following substantial work to clear and groom the trail.  Access by these units was from the Driftwood Lake in the Deadwood area.  Similar damage has been experienced in the area of the staging area on the Baytex Wesley Creek Trail.  The purpose of raising this is to make those responsible aware that only tracked off highway vehicles (snowmobiles, side by sides, etc.) are allowed on the Club’s trails during the operating season of October 15th to April 30th each winter season.  The Club’s trails fall under the Alberta Trail Act for which the Alberta Snowmobile Association has been appointed the trail manager for all snowmobile trails in the province.  As the Peace Valley Snow Riders in a member club of the Alberta Snowmobile Association, the Club’s trails have been or are in the process of being registered as provincial trails.  Access enforcement can take place in regard to those damaging the trails or accessing the trails without being in possession of an annual or daily Trail Pass.  Trail Passes are available online on the Alberta Snowmobile Association website.  Your cooperation in not damaging the trails and supporting the local Club by purchasing a Trail Pass is appreciated.

Rest Area at Driftwood Lake

Peace Valley Snow Riders Receive Approval of a Rest Area at Driftwood Lake

Jan 1, 2025- The Osmond/Getaway Cabins Leddy Lake Trail, which runs 40 km north from the Leddy Lake Recreation Area to Driftwood Lake in the Deadwood area, was the Peace Valley Snow Riders first trail.  Since the official opening in 2010 a number of improvements have been made.  The outdoor kitchen was closed in by those operating the Leddy Lake Recreation Area and the Club purchased and installed a wood stove.  Signage was upgraded and installed on steel signposts.  A community access was developed for residents on the south side of the Whitemud River.  A rest area was added on the south side of the Whitemud River.  Being that this is a north/south run, the west winds have made this one of the most challenging of the Club’s trails to keep clear of vegetation; however, the largest challenge has been the slides on the south hill of the Whitemud River.  With mulching work that took place at the north end of the trail earlier this winter, this trail is now in the best condition since being opened subject to the area receiving more snow.  With this in mind, the Club applied for and earlier this week received Alberta Environment and Parks approval to add a new rest area at the Driftwood Lake end of the trail.  It is anticipated that this will increase usage of the trail from the south as well as attract additional membership from the Deadwood and Manning areas.  All or most of the rest area amenities will be in place prior to the end of the winter season.  Rest area amenities include a fire pit, picnic table, outhouse, and a woodshed which will be stocked with wood, a splitting axe and wiener roasting sticks.  A reminder that annual or day Trail Passes are available online on the Alberta Snowmobile Association website.
