Officially opened March 11, 2017. The East End Staging Area is located to the north of Grimshaw, and the West End Staging Area is located to the north of Hines Creek. Runs 80 kilometers from north of Figure Eight Lake to just east of Stony Lake. This trail includes two loops, one at the west end of the trail that has a magnificent view of the area and the other at the southeast, near Last Lake.
Work on this trail was formally initiated in the spring of 2015; due to some challenges it was not opened until the fall of 2019.
This trail joins up with the Zavisha Smith Mill trail and is the only trail that is connected to a community where sledders can go for fuel, and food.
As part of the Club’s desire to develop a network of trails on both the east and west side of the Peace River, the Club is proposing a new trail on the east side of the Peace River. This new 30 kilometer trail is anticipated to connect with the existing Baytex Wesley Creek Trail in the southeast corner. It is proposed that this trail would run to the east where it would split off to the south and run to the existing Harmon Valley Campground operated by Northern Sunrise County. In addition to sharing the existing facilities, it is anticipated that a Community Access for local residents would be located at this site. The other portion of the trail would continue to the east where a warm up cabin would potentially be located. As of 12JAN25, the Club has received approval of the concept from the primary stakeholders. Work is currently taking place to finalize the proposed route prior to seeking the support of all stakeholders. Tentatively it is anticipated that development of this new trail would be completed prior to the end of 2025.
As part of the long range goal to complete a network of trails on both the east and west sides of the Peace River, there is also commitment to link our local network to those of other member Clubs of the Alberta Snowmobile Association as part of an overall network of trails within the Province of Alberta. From a conceptual perspective the Club has identified the potential of the following trails becoming part of the local trail network, Dixonville Connector & Talbot Lake Trail.
